We're 5!!
Yes, PLT is 5 this week and I can't believe how quickly time has flown! 5 years ago around this time I had just started to sell a very small collection to a couple of boutiques in my neighborhood-- Shop (which sadly, closed this summer) was one of them. After being there for only a week or so, I got a call from one of the Shop girls letting me know that an editor at Daily Candy had seen my jewelry there and that they were running a feature on me. To say I was shocked is an understatement. Above is that first press hit and as they say-- "the rest is history". Thanks to everyone for their support through the years: customers, boutique owners, buyers, editors, bloggers, friends and fam! You make it possible to do what I love and to keep Pretty Little Thing moving and growing. I can't wait to share with you the next collection in Spring as well as other exciting projects in the works. See you in 2010!!

Three's A Trend
The Mix Metal Earrings from our current collection, Concrete Jungle have emerged as clear editor favorites appearing in three magazines recently. They were featured in Life & Style a couple of weeks ago and you'll find them again in the December issues of Lucky and Cosmopolitan out now. These earrings were created in about 15 minutes as I was rushing to get ready for a party and couldn't find any earrings to wear. I made them for myself but got so many compliments on them that night (and any time I wear them), that I decided to add them to the collection at the last minute. I think their appeal is that they're bold and pretty and look great with casual or evening looks as seen in the two different fashion stories above.

POP!
A few weeks ago over drinks at a Fashion Week event, my friend Myra and I were talking about how the shopping scene has changed in NYC since the emergence of Pop-Up Shops, and how this fresh and innovative concept has kept a lot of young designers and entrepreneurs afloat in these unstable economic times. Not only have pop-ups helped to stimulate our economy, but they've also introduced consumers to a fun and interesting way to shop again that will likely stick around for many years to come. Myra and I are both somewhat bi-coastal, so we decided to bring a little New York flavor to the Pop-Up Shop concept on the west coast, where the trend is just starting to catch on. Hence our brand new venture: DNA (designers+artists)! We've been busy scouting for fresh and established talent for our grand opening tomorrow in San Francisco, and we've put together a nice group of amazing clothing and accessories designers for our first event. SF has been very welcoming to us and our concept-- Daily Candy and 7x7 (the city's fashion and culture bible) have recently given us nice shout-outs! We hope to bring DNA to Los Angeles in the new year and back to NYC for a little homecoming event. In PLT news: Spring 2010 is looking HOT! Get ready for dangerous heavy metal action. Stayed tuned...

New York, I Love You
A while back I was approached to be a part of a fun and creative promotion behind the upcoming movie New York, I Love You. Needless to say, I was very flattered and excited. The film is about interwoven love stories that take place, where else, in magical and romantic NYC!
The stories are told in a series of vignettes with an amazing ensemble cast including: Bradley Cooper, Rachel Bilson, Shia LaBeouf, Orlando Bloom, Natalie Portman, Ethan Hawke and like a million other great actors. Since the movie is all about love, the production company behind it, Vivendi Entertainment, started a contest where people were asked to share their stories of love via essays based on story plots from the movie. The winner gets a great prize package which includes a PLT NY Hearts Me tote! The contest ends Oct. 9th and the movie will be in theaters Oct. 16th.
Check out the trailer above.
Spotted:
Taylor Momsen wearing PLT's Rivington Necklace in the streets of NYC on the set of Gossip Girl! Love how she's layered it with pearls and a dainty charm necklace-- it all looks perfect with her simple Tee and leather look. The Rivington Necklace is part of our Mercury Rising collection and comes in two lenghts: 24" and 36" and comes in a bracelet version as well. Taylor's is 36" long and looks awesome just as she's wearing it but can also be wrapped twice around the neck for a shorter, layered look. Also loving?? GG this season-- so good!

Perfect 80s
Everything about this picture makes me so happy. From the pounds of jewelry Madonna has piled on to that simple black tee and that classic red lip-- Its perfection. And while catching up on the stacks of magazines that I amass every month (and never have the time to fully read) I learned that Maripol the 80's stylist/scenester/photographer and everything in between (she's actually responsible for this look as well as M's iconic black rubber bracelets) has an upcoming jewelry line which will be sold at Marc by Marc Jacobs stores early next year. The line sounds like a full 80's revival and pretty amazing: florescent, lucite, geometric and big! Can't wait.

Lucky Girl
LOVING how MTV's Alexa Chung is rockin' Pretty Little Thing's Lucky Elephant Necklace at the I Heart Ronson event in NYC. She looks amazing and she perfectly captures the spirit of our line: jewelry that looks great whether you're wearing it casually or hitting the red carpet. We also caught Alexa wearing the necklace again on her show the next day!

Mexican Noir
An editorial from this month's Vogue Italia shot at one of my favorite spots, La Esquina, a fun and yummy taqueria/restaurant/bar. I love how they completely transformed this bright and always buzzing place into a dark and dreamy scene straight out of another era. (via R29)

Fashionable Reading
Two of my favorite, go-to fashion sites are now in book form! WhoWhatWear posts daily mini fashion stories featuring the latest in trends, celeb fashion, accessories, and make-up. It's the perfect little dose of fashion eye-candy I look forward to reading every day. The book Who What Wear: Celebrity and Runway Style for Real Life follows the same format as the site offering loads of pics and fashion advice, and is available today on Shopbop. Another one of my favorite sites is Scott Shuman's The Sartorialist. The highly anticipated book by the same name comes out tomorrow, and compiles his beautiful images of "street" fashion in fashion hot spots like NYC, Paris, London and Milan. Shuman has an amazing eye for fashion and photography and his work is always inspiring and effortlessly cool. I've ordered both--can't wait to get them!

Think Pink! Shop For Breast Cancer Event, SF
I am excited and proud to be hosting a very special event for a very good cause on July 7th in the lovely city of San Francisco-- Shop For Breast Cancer, where I will be previewing my Fall '09 collection: Concrete Jungle and holding a sample sale where a portion of all proceeds will be donated to an amazing organization: The Breast Cancer Fund. Their message is important-- prevention through awareness and education:
"In response to the public health crisis of breast cancer, the Breast Cancer Fund identifies – and advocates for elimination of – the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease.
No more than 10 percent of breast cancers are genetic, and science increasingly points to toxic chemicals and radiation as factors in the sharp rise of breast cancer incidence. Through public education, policy initiatives, outdoor challenges and other innovative campaigns, the Breast Cancer Fund mobilizes the public to secure the changes needed to stop this devastating epidemic".
Please visit their website to learn more about what they are doing to put an end to breast cancer and to get involved. On a personal note, I lost my wonderful Aunt Ade last year to this disease. I am doing this for her and for everyone that has been and will be affected by it. Every little bit helps!! For more information on the event, sponsors, and other participating designers, please visit our blog here (www.shopforbreastcancersf.blogspot.com).

Time Flies When You're.... Busy!!
Lots going on at Pretty Little Thing.... GenArt was really fun. Met lots of cool designers, among them Sally Tseng, the designer of the eponymous line. She designs pretty, feminine, frocks with a touch of street cool. Check out her website to see her lovely designs and the slew of Hollywood It-Girls who wear them. The week after GenArt was busy with prepping, making and shipping summer orders and working on a couple more projects which will be revealed a little later (stay tuned!). Speaking of tuning in, check out the new season of Z Rock-- an original comedy series on IFC-- not just because its a good show, but because one of the characters ("Dina" played by Lynne Koplitz) will be wearing Pretty Little Thing jewelry in upcoming episodes. Z Rock is on IFC, Sundays at 11pm. Check it out!!

Sky High
When I saw the Nina Ricci Fall 09 collection I thought two things: 1. I loved the drama, darkness and flirty hints in the collection (especially the green/black sparkly mini) and 2. How did no one fall wearing those insane shoes! Can't wait to see how the magazines will use them editorially and what the "real world" version of the shoes will look like.
