Creating a new collection is always really exciting and sometimes really scary. I think every designer can relate to that uneasy feeling that the ideas will stop, and that creativity will cease. But inspiration can happen at random moments, and then things come together... For this collection, inspiration struck by watching a movie: Cleopatra, a true classic, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. I mean, what's not to love about this one?! The costumes (the jewelry!), the cinematography, that beautiful dusty pink color of old films, and of course the beauty of Ms. Taylor and the story behind her real life romance with Burton, which began during filming. All these themes came together in this collection, but with a 2o11 twist: statement pieces that can be worn with t-shirts or party dresses, mixed metals, different textures, and little bit of polish and edge. I wanted to capture the mood of the collection with the new lookbook video, filmed at the historic Egyptian Theater in LA. It was like coming full circle; the perfect way to wrap up this collection. I hope you enjoy it!
